Educational Leyden Jar

The Leyden jar was discovered in the 17th century when it was used to store static electricity. Consisting of an inner and outer metal cans separated by an insulator, a charge may be stored by rubbing a charged rod on the central electrode. The fact that the charge has been stored is shown by holding the outside of the jar in one hand and touching the electrode with a finger of the other hand.  The resulting spark is not dangerous and will be surprising.
